Results of OWLTC Adult Membership Survey 2017

Posted 24th July 2017

The survey was offered to 129 adult members of whom 56 responded (43.41%)

Below is a summary of the questions and the response from The Club.  The full transcript can be found here

  1. We used to have a "turn up and play" club session on a midweek evening. That was eventually stopped after many years of poor attendance and has been replaced with arranged fours on Monday to Thursday evenings. Some members have asked for an open club night to be reinstated.   Would you support [tick all that apply]

Club Response - There was no strong desire to alter the status quo but we will endeavour to make the organised evening sessions more visible to anyone else who’d like to participate.

  2. For Saturday club session, and any new evening club session, there have always been issues due to the varying standards of player ability within those sessions.   Do you think we should [tick one]

Club Response – The players attending Saturday club sessions largely sort themselves out on ability anyway. We have subsequently received comments strongly requesting we retain the status quo.  In the absence of anyone willing to be responsible for any kind of “streaming” process we plan to retain the status quo
  3. When the online court booking system was introduced the club decided to pre-book the courts used by groups with longstanding, regular arrangements - eg Monday mornings and afternoons, Friday mornings and afternoons, etc. Some members have commented that this is unfair, particularly to new members. Do you think the arrangement should

Club Response – We will continue to make these block bookings but cancel any that are no longer needed.

  4. Some members seem to experience difficulties with the floodlight payment cards; others seemingly do not.   Have you had problems [tick one]
  5. Regarding payment methods, what do you think the club should do?

Club Response – As we approach the darker evenings Nigel will offer to assist anyone who wants to check they are inserting the floodlight cards correctly.  If this does throw up any issues with the meters these can then be addressed with the vendors.

  6. Some members have suggested playing the club tournaments at a different time of the year instead of the current three-week period ending in mid-July.   Others have asked for it to take place over a much longer period of time. Would you prefer our club tournaments to be played [please tick one box for the duration and one box for the time of year]

Club Response – Committee will take this forward and make a recommendation for a change in 2018. One option is to run the tournament from mid-July until late September, with suitable “play by” dates for each round that the organiser will enforce. This has the benefit of also avoiding clashes with league matches and should ensure there is plenty of time.
