Posted 17th September 2018
On a glorious Autumn day, the Sunday Development Eleven trekked over to Hampton Court to take on East Molesey CC for the Inter county final and cheered on by a small crowd from the Hill including IP, Denise, The Sherlocks, Priors, Abbetts, Sestons, Laki, Dave Welch, John Devarajulu, Chris Rodda, Margo, Joe Jukes and Laurence, they managed to get over the line by 11 runs and grab the silverware! Congratulations to skipper Chris Scott who guided the lads home through a tense and exciting finish! Thanks also to Jasper Gundry-White for umpiring and Mike Pike for covering scoring duties. His match report as follows and a few pictures from the day can be seen below.
East Molesey 160 All out Versus Old Wilsonians 171 for 8 - Old Wilsonians win by 11 runs!
At 92 for 2 after 13 overs East Molesey seemed to be cruising to victory in this fixture to determine the home counties champions of the Sunday development League - well, between Surrey and Kent! - with Old Wilsonians reprsenting the latter. At this point Cole Campbell had hit a blistering 53 in 22 minutes but when Elliott Bettridge had him caught behind for 54, the game took a dramatic turn and the home side were bowled out for 160 to secure a 11 run victory; and the trophy. Bettridge went on to finish with 4 for 19 and, after Campbell's dismssal, only Jack Healey(26) looked capable of getting the runs required , and when David Pilgrim bowled him the latter then went on to take the final two wickets to finish with 3 for 2!
Earlier the Old Wilsonian innings had been a more sedate affair as Velson Devarajulu (27), Syd Sherlock (67), Dan Seston (20) and Chrius Scott (25) all scored valuable runs, but the host's rapaid start indicated that this wopuld not be enough. However, the OWs did not panic and, as well as those fine bolwing performamces already mentioned, Sherlock added 2 for 28 to his impressive knock to claim the 'man of the match' award.View scorecard
