Whoever said the Cricket Club goes into hibernation in the Winter was wrong

Have you noticed that the hours of daylight are getting longer, England are winning Test matches again and that Old Wilsonians are participating in Saturday morning Nets? (At least the answer to the last one will have been “Yes” because you will have been participating
If not, the details are :

The Nets are held at: Ravensbourne School, Hayes Lane, Bromley, Kent BR2 9EH.

The first Net was on January 12th with the initial sessions finishing on February 9th, but don’t worry if you missed them as they recommence on Saturday March 2nd and then continue until Saturday March 30th by which time the clocks will have gone forward and, a couple of days later, we will be able to use the Nets at Hayes
The details of the sessions at Ravensbourne are as follows:

• 9am - 10am: Under 11s to Under 13s
• 10am - 11am: Under 15s to Under 17s
• 11am - 12noon: Seniors

You are ALL encouraged to attend as we prepare for the 2019 season. A good start is always important and the better you prepare the more likely that is to happen

Working party on the Nets at Hayes

Talking of the Nets at Hayes, we have received quote for their refurbishment, the cost of which will be covered by our sinking fund
However, some work is required in order to ensure that they are fit for purpose and Club captain Alex Forbes is organising a working party to make sure this happens, so please answer his call for assistance when it comes

Other work also needs to be done

As well as the Nets there is also a lot of other essential work to be carried out in order that we can start the season in the best way possible. The date for this work is yet to be decided but, and again, please answer the call when it is made and do not leave it to the tried and tested few

Annual General Meeting

We had our AGM in October and the Minutes have been on the website for some time, but re-read them before the season starts so you have an idea of where we are

IMPORTANT: Will all of those mentioned above please check their details and let me know if they are correct

Three New coaches

Dave Ellicott-White, Velson Deverajulu and Joe Jukes are currently undertaking coaching courses and we thank them all for their commitment to the Club, which will benefit enormously as a consequence of the knowledge they will acquire, all of which will make you – and them – better players, so take advantage of the opportunities this will bring you
They join the already qualified Jonathan Rodda and Josh Lawrence, and if anyone else would like to add to this number then please let us know – the Club will cover the cost of the relevant course

League News

The Kent League AGM has taken place and thanks to Tom Sullivan, our representative, for continuing to speak for the Old Wilsonians in the erudite manner we have come to expect from him – he has even collected the match balls for the coming season
Sad to report that in both the Kent League and the Kent Regional League Clubs continue to withdraw from the respective competitions, which again emphasises the need for a strong structure for all Clubs, something your management committee continues to work hard to maintain and improve

Quiz Night - Friday April 26th

The annual Quiz Night has become a tradition with the OWCC and a most enjoyable one which we all look forward to, thanks to the organising skills of Margo Lawrence and her tip top questions
This is your opportunity to test your knowledge and claim bragging rights over other sides, register for the new season and impress everyone with how you tend to shine with both bat and ball over the summer months, although it is seldom that these extravagant claims come to fruition!

Pleased to report that Ginger’s continues to sponsor us for yet another season and delighted to welcome two more sponsors, namely ‘Cobra concrete’, thanks to Tony Sherlcok, and ‘New India’, who are helping our Sunday Development side
Sincere thanks to all three, and we will endeavour to justify your faith in our sides

Congratulations Josh, and thanks

Congratulations and thanks to Josh Holland who has agreed to become the 3rd Xl skipper and steps into the illustrious shoes of Howard Abbett, who will now lead the 2nd Xl – and this will be a difficult act to follow as Howard led the 3s to promotion last season
Josh has already outlined a vigorous pre-season fitness and training regime whilst talk of pre-match visits to McDonald’s have been greatly exaggerated

Alf Parish Memorial darts match - March 29th

The Cricket Club will be again entering a team in the Alf Parish Memorials darts match which takes place on Friday March 29th at Selhurst Park, when our team will be:
Laurence Allen, Howard Abbett, Matthew Abbett, Stephen Millward and Andrew Steel
The football club, who are the current holders of this trophy, are also entering a team so please come along and support the event – it is a fun evening and raises money for the OWCC

…………… and finally

The fantastic Joe Jukes started working with us in September and his main project is to create a new teaching pack, in addition to facilitating lots of school and teacher training sessions. With Joe’s help, we look forward to another busy 2019
