Old Wilsonians 1st XI 107 All out versus Broadstairs 108 for 7 - Broadstairs win by 3 wickets!

Broadstairs leapfrogged over second placed Old Wilsonians as a consequence of this victory, with the Hayes based side now in third place, but with only 23 points separating the top six sides, it is any one’s guess as to who will be playing First Division cricket next season. Broadstairs won this game not only because they bowled the OWs out cheaply but because they bowled tightly all afternoon  and took wickets at vital times, with Matthew Frewin taking the last three in 11 balls – the fact that Matt Abbett was the host’s top scorer  with 25 was indicative of the dominance of the ball over the bat. Broadstairs, too, found runs difficult to come by as they slumped to 47 for 4  before a fifth wicket stand of 36 between Swaroop Dasari (42 n.o) and Jack Wheeler (16) gained them the initiative,  only for the latter to be run out to set up a tense finish. However, Dasari was still there at the end to help the visitors claim a vital 18 points and restrict the OWs to  just three, but such is the tightness of this division that either, both or neither of the sides could be promoted come September 2nd. View scorecard

Broadstairs 2nd XI did not bat Versus Old Wilsonians 2nd XI 62 for 4 - Match abandoned due to heavy rain

The points were shared as unfortunately the second XI suffered their 3rd consecutive abandonment due to the jet stream still not playing ball since late july. This game was 30 overs old when heavy rain sent the players – and holiday makers – scurrying for cover and it had to be abandoned with Old Wilsonians struggling on 62 for 4, having lost three early wickets. Cameron Jones (29 n.o) had watched this carnage from the other end and must have been encouraged by the support he received from Siva Ranjan (18), but the latter’s  dismissal put the home side back in control, with Luke Palmer,  3 for 26,inflicting  all of the early damage . Still all to play for with 4 weeks to go, as long as it stays dry! View scorecard

Old Wilsonians 3rd XI 127 for 7 Versus Bexleyheath 3rd XI 113 for 9 - Old Wilsonians 3rd XI win by 14 runs!

In a rain affected game, reduced to 30 overs a side, Old Wilsonians’ 3rd Xl managed to get the better of their Bexleyheath counterparts by just 14 runs, a fine spell of bowling by Steve Lawrence, who finished with 4 for 36, stopping the visitors in their tracks when they sensed victory could be theirs for the taking. The OWs batted first and lost four early wickets, but some middle order resistance by Howard Abbett (26), Andy Hazzard (29) and Jason James (30 n.o) saw them recover to finish on 127 for 7  -  just over four runs an over. Bexleyheath’s reply was even shakier than that of their hosts,  but in Darren Kemposn (62) they found someone prepared to battle hard for his side, but when he was bowled by the impressive Lawrence, only Nick Parnham (13 n.o) looked capable of seeing his side over the line and, in the end, they fell short.View Scorecard

Blackheath 7th XI 139 for 9 Versus Old Wilsonians 4th XI 81 for 7 - Blackheath 7th XI win by 58 runs!

In a game reduced to 32 overs a side due to the weather conditions, the Old Wilsonians’ opening attack, Robbie Adams, 3  for  9 and Stephen Millward, 2 for 21, ripped into the Blackheath top order but were defied by Shahruk Khan (47),  and with Vinodh Venkatraman (13) and Akbar Jabarkhell (20 n.o) enjoying the change bowlers,  they took their total to 139 for 9. The Old Wilsonian start proved to be better than that of their counterparts with Derek Birmingham (21),  Neil Treacher (20) and Xavier Hussein (15) all scoring well, but the Blackheath bowlers,  Sam Tobin, 4 for 11 and Akbar Jabarkhell, 2 for 14, in particular, prevented them from keeping up with the run rate and they fell well short of the required total.View Scorecard

Dartford 5th XI versus Old Wilsonians 5th XI - Match conceded by Dartford - Old Wilsonians win by default

Lordswood Sunday Development XI 110 All Out Versus Old Wilsonians Sunday Development XI 195 for 9 - Old Wilsonians win by 85 Runs!

Old Wilsonians’ Sunday Development side maintained their 100% winning record this season with  an  85 run victory against Lordswood.  Batting first they were grateful to Dan Seston (35), Louis Pryor (23), Chris Scott (46) and Michael Mitchell (35) for the majority of their runs, with Nathan Mitchell taking 3 for 26 for Lordswood and Jack Laraman 2 for 10. The host’s reply started well enough,  with Zahmeer Khan (35) and Michael French (13) putting on 41 for the first wicket , but after their respective dismissals  only Edward Taylor (29) caused the OW bowlers any real problems as Josh Lawrence, 4 for 6, and Joe Jukes, 2 for 6, proved to be too hot for them to handle.View Scorecard

Old Wilsonians Sunday Friendly XI 125 All Out Versus Crusaders 47 All Out - Old Wilsonians win by 78 runs!

The Sunday Xl made batting look difficult against  visitors Crusaders to the extent that, after 26 overs, their score stood at 64 for 6. However, a stand of 59 between Sean Beckett (48) and Jacob Gold (24) improved things before the visiting skipper, Stephen Whale came on to take 3 for 7 and they were all out for 125. Crusaders then struggled for runs themselves and were dismissed for just 47, Steve Lawrence finishing with 4 for 19, including a hat-trick, and Howard Abbett 2 for 3.
